Define a good result

Your test case does not need to be long. Start with A two-column research article with figure captions. Check that the source is the version you intend to use, that the important words survived import, and that a listener can follow the order without seeing the page.

The starting pointNewspaper-style layouts can make extracted text jump between columns.

Work through the checklist

  1. 01

Compare the imported opening paragraph with the page

Make this check before selecting a final voice or generating a long recording. A clean source makes the later choices easier.

  2. 02

Reorder text so one column finishes before the next starts

Keep the meaning intact. Editing a listening copy should make the sequence easier to hear without changing the underlying claim.

  3. 03

Keep captions beside the paragraph that explains them

Listen all the way through the sample. Check the start, the transitions, and the ending before moving on.

Catch the easy-to-miss detail

Reading order is a document-structure issue. Changing the voice will not repair interleaved columns.

A final listening check

Before you finish, make sure the title is recognizable, the first paragraph sounds right, and the saved result opens. If you changed the source text, keep that listening copy separate from the original so the edits remain easy to understand.
